Prospecting and Creating Mine for Herkimer Diamonds and keep what you find! Personalize your find by creating jewelry or a craft as a keepsake. Cost: $18.00 per person

Fossiling or Gemstone Sluicing (specify) Each participant receives a bag of fossil rough or a bag of gemstone rough and is guaranteed to find a variety of fossils or gemstones. Cost: $7.50 per fossil bag or gemstone bag

The Herkimer Diamond Mines will be conducting a “Home School Outing” on Monday, June 6, 2011. Cost is $22.00 per child for Program Fee and $7.50 per adult for Mining Only Fee. Reservations are required – reservation forms can be obtained by calling 315.717.0175 or you can download it below.

Our Programs Provide For Multiple Age Level Experiences
To Accommodate All Campers.
Morning Program – Science Made Fun
Geology, gemology, paleontology, astronomy, biology, earth science, and entomology all made fun, interactive, and memorable. Highlights include: finding diamonds, sluicing for fossils, creating jewelry, tumbling rocks, cracking geodes, instructing water shed modules, cray fishing, star gazing, grasshopper gravity activities and more….
Afternoon Program – A lot of Rock & Gem Mania
Athletic competition, face paintings, frisbee golf, chess, bocci, swimming, arts & crafts, nature walks, backpacking excursions, fly fishing, 4-square tournaments and more…….
The groups of children ages 6-10 and children ages 11-13 will be following different tracks in the morning. For lunch, as well as the afternoon program, all children ages 6-13 will be together.
A mini awards ceremony will be given at the conclusion of each day to celebrate individual and group accomplishments.

Our Staff
Our staff consists of geologists, gemologists, environmental geologists, lapidary artists, fly fishermen, professional miners, certified lifeguards and water safety instructors, an EMT, CITs, and trained counselors. The counselor to student ration is 1 to 8, and have over 40 years of accumulative experience with our camp.
Our Philosophy
The camp is designed to provide quality instruction and fun experiences in a safe environment at an affordable price. It is a camp that encourages the learning of scientific topics and having fun while doing so. It is also a camp that encourages risk taking and new learning experiences in an effort to enhance campers’ self esteem.
Our Location
The camp will occupy the grounds of the Herkimer Diamond Mines and KOA Park in Herkimer, the site of the world famous Herkimer Diamonds and the majestic West Canada Creek. It is located seven miles north of Herkimer, NY, on Route 28.

Weekly Camp Fee: $200.00 per camper

A $100.00 non-refundable deposit should accompany this application. The balance is due one week prior to the beginning of the session. Daily schedules, medical forms, and waivers will be forwarded to each camper upon receipt of application and deposit.

Rocks Rock Program :
The Herkimer Diamond Mines will be conducting a Girl Scout Jamboree on September 30 to October 2nd . Cost is $22.00 per Girl Scout for program fee and $7.50 for mining only fee.

*Scouts will have the opportunity to take home the following items: All Diamonds found in the mines, all Fossils found in the mines or in the sluice, all Gemstones found in the sluice, and all
jewelry and gift items made.
*Prizes will be awarded at 4 pm Awards Ceremony.
FOOD OPTIONS -Reservations required by 09/15/2011. You are welcome to bring your own bag lunch and use our picnic areas. If you would like us to provide meals, we can offer the following:
Friday Dinner – Cost is $10.95 per dinner (dinner includes: pasta, meatballs, salad, dessert, beverage) to be served at the Crystal Chandelier Restaurant. We will be happy to make your dinner reservations for you. If you would like to make your own dinner reservations, you are welcome to call the Crystal Chandelier Restaurant directly at 315.891.3366. Payment should be made directly to the Crystal Chandelier Restaurant.
Saturday Lunch - Cost is $6.50 per lunch (lunch includes: choice of hamburger or hot dog, potato chips, applesauce, cookie, and a beverage) to be served at the Herkimer Diamond Cafe.
Saturday Dinner – Cost is $10.95 per dinner (dinner includes: Roast beef, potatoes, salad vegetable, dessert, beverage) to be served at the Crystal Chandelier Restaurant. We will be happy to make your Dinner reservations for you. If you would like to make your own dinner reservations, you are welcome to call the Crystal Chandelier directly at 315.891.3366. Payment should be made directly to the Crystal Chandelier Restaurant.
Sunday Breakfast – Cost is $5.00 per breakfast (breakfast includes: pancake / waffle, sausage, coffee / hot chocolate) to be served at the Herkimer Diamond KOA Pavilion.
KOA ACCOMMODATIONS:
If you are traveling in for the program and would like to make camping reservations, please call our KOA Kampground at 315.891.7355 for availability and to make a reservation. Please mention code #GS2011 when making your reservation
OPTIONAL EVENTS:
Movies will be playing in the Cinema both Friday and Saturday night. On Friday we will have a flashlight candy hunt and on Saturday evening we will start a bonfire and sponsor a s'mores event at the fire pit.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
CLOTHING: The Scouts will be outdoors for a majority of their time. Please be prepared with
the appropriate clothing.
Sneakers or closed-toed shoes are required.
GOGGLES: If Scouts have their own goggles please bring them with you. If not, goggles can be purchased at the Herkimer Diamond Mine Store for $2.50 each.
HAMMERS: Will be provided for the mining modules. You are also welcome to bring your
own if you choose.
PLASTIC BAGS: We will provide small ziplock bags for your finds. Some prospectors will bring buckets to carry larger rocks.
